A good cup of coffeeI'm not a coffee snob, and I don't frequent coffee houses. I just make morning coffee at home every day. A friend from Dominican Republic brought me a bag of this during her visit, and I found that I could buy it on Amazon, so I got a couple more bags. It's a nice, smooth cup of coffee when I want a change for a while. My usual favorite is Caribou House Blend, and I would say this one has an equally pleasing taste, if that is of any help. This coffee doesn't have that harsh, nearly-burnt flavor that some coffees do. It's full-flavored, but not overpowering. A favorite now with some of my frequent guests.4Commentary from a 40+-year coffee drinkerI rarely post comments on food or drink products. Why? Everyone's taste or preference is different. But, this product is so unusual, I will speak up.NOTE: I have never been to Santo Domingo, or the Dominican Republic, or anywhere else in the Caribbean.I have been drinking coffee for over 40 years. Hands down, this is the best-tasting coffee I've ever had. I've never tasted anything like it. It is never bitter, even when made with more than (stronger) than the recommended amount. I've served it mixed with off-the-shelf, powdered, cappucchino products, and black, and it's excellent both ways.There's a reason this product is rated 5-Stars (as of May 11, 2013). It is very-high quality!5NOT THE SAME!!Just got back from living in the DR for five months and drank Santo Domingo coffee everyday(literally). I was stoked to see that it was for sale on Amazon. Unfortunately this is NOT the same coffee. I could tell as soon as I opened it. The grounds seemed extremely dry and more fine. The aroma was much weaker and the taste was even more disappointing. You will be very disappointed if you think you re getting the same amazing DR coffee. DONT BUY!!!1Tried this with only the positive reviews to go by - we were not disappointed!Was looking for a new coffee to try and just did a search for ground coffee and then organized the results in order of highest ratings by Amazon customers. This one came near the top of the list. So basically we ordered this cold with no prior experience. We were not disappointed. Definitely one of our favorite coffees if not THE favorite. It is a little bold, but also smooth and not bitter. Just like several other reviewers, we are not fans of Starbucks which tastes burnt most of the time. Cafe Molido Santo Domingo is strong without all that bitterness. And we made this discovery just by accident! Very pleased.5My Favorite coffee from Punta CanaThis is what was served by AM Resorts in the Dominican Republic. I have been buying this for over a year. I cannot find it in stores.5Not the same as I had in DominicanI was not a coffee drinker until I went to the Dominican Republic and tasted Santo Domingo. From that moment, I loved coffee!This coffee by the same name, is not the coffee I tasted on my travels. This coffee is not a dark roast, nor does it have the distinct rich flavor of the original in the Dominican. That coffee sipped deliciously rich, but with no bitter after taste. This coffee offered here, has the taste of the average low priced coffee but at a mid range price (and higher with cost of shipping). I think there are better options, especially for dark roast lovers. This has the taste of common coffees that you would see on television commercials in the 80's - but this is not "good to the last drop." And if you are wondering, the term "Molido" simply means "ground."If this had been a coffee by any other name, I would have given it three stars. But since it is the name of the one I tasted in the Dominican (that was a five star coffee!), I gave it only two as it is NOT the same coffee.2Great if you're craving it, not as good as the DRThis coffee was not very fresh and is of a lower quality than you will buy in the Dominican republic. It definitely has the distinct aroma of Cafe Santo Domingo and will fulfill your cravings while you await your next trip to the DR but it isn't quite the same.3Not Fresh. Blah!I've ordered this from another seller on the past and it was delicious. I really love the espresso grind. However, this package of 3 arrived in cling wrap, not vacuum sealed or anything. That didn't deter me since they're still in the original packaging, too. However, I am being it this week and blah. Gross, not fresh at all. I'm giving the other 2 packages away. I can't even bother with this. If you're considering this, just get Maxwell House or something because this is worse.2The Best Coffee Ever!I buy this coffee every time I go to the Dominican Republic. It is a bit cheaper there, of course, but I can't fill my suitcase with it! I think the price on Amazon of 3-pack 1 lb. packets is very reasonable. A bit higher than what I'd pay for the local grocery store brand but so well worth it.5The gold standard for rich smooth coffeeIn my opinion there are not many better coffees than Santo Domingo it is the gold standard to compare to. Many other coffees can have a subtly unpleasant sharpness or bitterness that you might not even be aware of until you try this coffee. Santo Domingo always has a smooth, clean, rich coffee flavor. It provides a pure coffee experience that I really appreciate.I first discovered Santo Domingo coffee when on a resort in the Dominican Republic. Very impressed by the coffee I inquired about it. When they identified it is Santo Domingo I thought they were just explaining where they got it Santo Domingo is the capital city of the Dominican Republic. But after seeing the bag I understood it was the brand name. Thankfully this coffee is readily available via Amazon as I intend to continue to make it an enjoyable mainstay of my mornings I see some reviews mentioning they received stale coffee and that it was not the same as what they had in the Domincan Republic. I suppose it's possible that occasionally some coffee may sit in a warehouse too long, or the like. All I can say is the coffee I received was of excellent quality and tasted just like what I remembered...5
