More delicious than I anticipated.This is definitely more delicious than I would have imagined. As the country gears up for quarantine I decided for the 1st time to buy powdered milk. Just in case we couldn't get fresh milk. My family drinks milk A lot. I decided to make a cup of it just to try it even though we have milk. And I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It taste a little bit more like organic milk than regular milk which has a sweeter consistency but I would highly recommend it and even consider buying it again in the future.5Excellent tasting dry milkThis SACO Instant milk has an excellent taste. Our family has difficulty telling it from store purchased liquid. We buy it, not to save money ( it costs about the same as the liquid) but because it's convenient. It is a dry granular powder and mixes quite easily. We will continue to buy.5Good milk. Poor delivery. Poor pricing.The milk is milk. That's it. We use it constantly. In everything. However it's 50% much over priced. There is no reason for this since its Amazon and buying in bulk should have stopped over pricing. This is nuts. No more. Going to Target. 1.35$ less per unit. Which is almost 14$ per buy. M. IL.3reasonable tasteMay 28, 2013What's with the price increase from Subscribe & Save? was buying for about $40 but now says out of stock and they cancelled the delivery but on product page is listed as in stock but at a price of $62.59... price always seemed to vary by a few dollars up and down each month before but around a $23 increase? almost a 60% increase? Terms of Subscribe & Save agreement says they will charge current price, I've canceled my Subscribe & Save subscription, I don't want to get charged the higher price.Price wise it was about $4 a gallon with Subscribe & Save before, but now it's $6.26 per gallon or if mixed a little stronger like I have been doing that's $7.11 per gallon. Compared to liquid milk at the store for $4 a gallon (or less). Being disabled I was willing to pay a little extra for not having to go to the store to buy milk but this much of a difference... forget it, I'll go to the store.I've found walmart offers their own brand ($13.68 Great Value: Instant Dry Milk, 64 oz, need to buy 2 for same amount for total cost of $27.36) for less then half the current Subscribe & Save price. Taste as good (actually better, I've tried it before) and does free delivery if ordering $45 or more. Just have to remember to order it each month instead of the automatic "Subscribe & Save".Jan 15, 2013 update of November 16, 2012 reviewFound if use more powder per gallon makes better tasting milk. Directions says to make 1 gallon of milk use 5 1/3 cups dried milk but found using 6 cups dried milk makes it taste closer to 2% milk. To me this makes it seem creamier... but will now make only about 8.8 gallons. This will increase cost about 12% but another brand i've tried that taste good with using amount it calls for in it's directions cost almost double the price (bought at big chain discount grocery/department store). So still cheaper and with using 6 cups of dried milk (this brand) taste as good as the more expensive brand.November 16, 2012I grew up with fresh cow milk, had to shake the milk to distribute the cream back into the milk with each use. Whole milk was a step down from that... and to me skim milk tasted like... well it had no taste... just white colored water. In recent years I haven't been able to go to the store several times a week for shopping and have tried to limit shopping to once a month or two...So with that in mind and trying to have milk too I had switched to soy milk by buying 50 pounds of dried soy beans at a time and making soy milk, making chocolate milk with it was best way to use it. But it seems soy milk didn't agree with me and caused my total cholesterol to go extremely high. (beats me why, but after switching back and forth to whole milk several times total cholesterol always went very high using soy milk. But that's just my reaction to it.)So now I tried dried milk. I did find one that tasted better but at twice the price... cost too much.This brand reminds me of soy milk flavor which is better tasting then white colored water... Works ok for making chocolate milk or for coffee or cereal and sometimes as a glass of milk, but does lack the creaminess of whole milk (which lacks the creaminess of fresh milk) and isn't as satisfying. But then again skim milk will never taste like whole or fresh milk.Still a little pricey compared to store bought milk, but does save the trouble of needing to buy several gallons at one time or needing to shop every week.I will be purchasing more as it does store well and I can make a gallon as needed. But I must say that I do miss the days of chocolate fresh milk which was so smooth and creamy, almost a milk shake in every glass and was a very satisfying drink. Skim milk has never seemed very satisfying to me but that is the problem with skim milk not just this product.4It is all in the mixingPowered milk is not cream, and contains little or no milk fat. That is why most people like myself drink it. We need milk with vitamin D but can not have the fat.This powdered milk is the best of the non fat dry milk. My wife and I buy it every month and have for a number of years. There is a need for good water and just the right mix to make it taste better. If your water has sulfur in it or is well water, or has heavy chlorine, the milk will not taste right. Boiled water or spring water creates a great tasting milk. But experimentation and an open mind are important. A little of this dry milk in Starbucks's freshly ground coffee creates a rich taste.5UPDATE - pretty decent way to have milk without any going badUPDATE @ 2014-03-06fyi, the per-serving cost works out thus ...local grocery store generic dry milk = 0.17 us$this product = 0.38 us$ [61.49 us$ / 160 servings]more than double is far too high a price for convenience. [*sigh ...*]*****UPDATE @ 2013-09-22the price on 2013-05-03 was us$42 and is now us$63. that 50% increase is beyond comprehension. i cannot recommend this item when the price is so unreasonable.rated a TWO since the cost is now insane.*****howdy y'all,this is pretty decent stuff. i used to really dislike dry milk cuz of the odd odor and rather unpleasant flavor. the odor - something similar to milk on the verge of going bad - doesn't seem to be there any more, thank goodness. i've become accustomed to the flavor. [*grin*] i don't drink it straight, tho. it's used for cereal, anti-weight-loss drinks and cooking.the price works out well. i use a tad more than the recommended amount to mix a pitcher of milk since i like the flavor a tad more that way. plus, of course, it never goes bad on me since i make only just enuf in each batch to last a few days.rated a THREE cuz it does what i expect and nothing more.take care,lee2Giant bagsArrived quickly, two bags together, and really heavy. I've opened one and it taste fine. We live on a 33-foot sailboat and don't have the ability to keep milk. This powder mixes in small amounts easily and it's easy to store on board. It's almost as good as the brand that sold in Aldi Stores that we can't get any more. This brand is low cost, long storage, and taste pretty good. Thanx for your work providing this dry-milk brand.5My favorite powdered milk product...it arrived double boxed. the saco milk box has a plastic bag full of powdered milk in it. i have a plastic 1 cup scoop that i put with mine for quick measuring. i mix mine up in water and put it in the fridge to cool down real good or sometimes i use cold water to mix it with. i also put it in protein shakes. it is very good tasting. if i want it to taste richer i can add more powder and maybe a couple artificial sweeteners to it. it mixes easily. it tastes very good. now i crave the taste and have it every day. it's worth a try!update june 16 2011: i have gotten used to the taste of this saco milk and it is delicious. i make it every day and i drink about two quarts of it a day. i use it in protein shakes and other things. it has many uses as it says on the box. i look forward to drinking this every day. i do add a little bit more powder to make my milk richer. it has a long shelf life also.5good value, great taste.We don't drink milk as a beverage, but we use milk in cooking, over cereal and in our coffee. This product is in powder form and mixes easier than the granules of the other brand we usually buy at the big city box store. I mixed up a quart and chilled it overnight and had a drink in the morning and was impressed with the flavor. I was raised on skim-milk, and this seemed really rich. I have used it to make bread pudding, pumpkin pie, tapioca and country gravy. It is awesome. Milk is a bargain5I LOVE THIS MILK!!!It's the best milk out there. I can make up a half-gallon in less than a minute, store it in the fridge for a few hours, and drink down the freshest tasting deliciousness. No mess. No empty milk jugs later, so it's much better for the environment. A few tricks I stumbled across when first getting started: I use a clear plastic pitcher with a built in stir-mechanism (mine is Pampered Chef, but just make sure it's clear plastic), not the rubbery - made pitchers, so the taste of the pitcher doesn't get mixed into the taste of the milk. The first few times I mixed the milk up, I didn't read the directions right, and I poured the mix into a 2 quart pitcher of water, rather than 1 quart. I actually like it better at half strength. It tastes like 2% milk, but doesn't have the powdery taste that powdered milk often has! Go get some!5
