Defective decorative coversThe decorative covers were crimped so tightly around the mounting flanges it was impossible to "Slide the decorative cover away from the hub end to expose the SecureMount mounting flange" per the installation instructions step 2. Consequently, grab bar could not be mounted to wall. Note: back of box says "Made in China to CSI quality specifications". Perhaps it would benefit Moen to investigate that claim? 1Grab BarsI recently ordered two of these 24-inch grab bars (and one 16-inch). One of the larger ones was for my shower; the other two, for my husband's. He recently had hip replacement surgery and we needed to make the house safe for him. I had resisted the bars before because I didn't want ugly chrome bars in newly remodeled showers with brushed nickel fixtures. These are perfect for our needs and are working well for us. 5They rust!Ordered 5 grab bars, and installed them the first week of December. 2 out of the 5 are rusting, and have discolored my grout with a dark red rust stain! Now I have to remove them, and since the return window has passed, deal with the manufacturers warranty. I would not order again. My replacements will be a different brand. 1Looks great, better than the Generic Hospital TypesI had concerns about installing this. There are several videos on You Tube you can view for install and the manufacturers testing of the Moen Anchor system. I installed this through tile walls. I knew I have the metal studs behind the wall so wasn't too keen on using metal screws to secure even one side of the bar. I made sure I stayed away from the metal studs and used the anchor system for both sides of all the bars I install (3 sets) and still stayed within safety guidelines of installing grab bars. I just had to make sure I found a 1.25" hole drill bit for tile at about $10 and that did the trick, you don't want to crack tile. There is a Handyman in the area who can only install the Generic Hospital style because his insurance will not allow him to install any others. They need to test the anchor system so he can install it, and be insured. The system he installed would have cost a few hundred if not over $1000 to install since there are metal studs and he would have torn apart the wall to block behind the wall to put his anchor screws in. 5Additional cost fixtures may be required.First let me say, the quality of the grab bar is excellent. However it only comes only with screws that allow for attachment to studs or solid blocking if you are fortunate enough to have that installed in your wall. This is a 24' bar. Studs are usually 16' on center (although there are cost cutting installation that have 24' studs). The likelihood is that you, like me, will need to install this bar to drywall or similar hollow wall. The Moen video that accompanies this item shows instillation using a Securemount fixture from Moen.I assumed that the fixtures would accompany the bar. They don't. They sell for about $11.00 for a single unit plus tax and S&H if you aren't a Prime member. That add significantly to the cost of the installation. I should receive the Securemount in a day of two and get the job done.This should all have been clearly explained in the write-up. Again the bar looks excellent and I anticipate it will do a great job once it is installed. 3Safety can be decorative!In replacing some unattractive, rusting grab bars in my mother's shower, she picked out this style because it has covered screws, Moen's quality, brushed nickel and the stepped trim on it was more attractive than the other styles in our local home-improvement stores. The catch was that she needed a 16" and a 24" and we could only find the 16" in stock in our nearby stores. She wanted to expand our search area, but I told her to let me check online. Sure enough, I found it through Amazon.com, ordered it and had it in just a few days! It's now installed and looks great! 5Poor Screw Design.....carefull Also, tape the cover in place during InstallLooks nice....performs it function well. Cons: Give how important it is to have all 3 anchor screws securely into a wall stud, these are pretty cheap screws! They are driven with a #1 or #2 Phillips head....make sure you pre-drill holes with a bit only slightly smaller in diameter than these screws, as their heads will easily strip out under application of significant torque. I ended up using a rotary tool to grind a straight slot across the head, and then hand tightened them. Also, if you allow the covers to slide up and down the bar while you are manipulating it during installation, their edges will scratch the brushed nickel finish. 3Good as any other.I spent 45 minutes completing a detailed review on other items. Probably more useful to any future buyer has left, to help future buyers in making the most important decisions and info for the correct size to order, a major problem in the review and problem with a purchase. You will not be compensated for your time and if the review is lost you will get no compensation from AMAZON. 5Very sturdyVery sturdy if screwed into studs. Nice looking color (brushed satin) and matches other fixtures. End bases are larger and slightly hang over the window frame. This was installed horizontally near toilet. 5Nice strong grab bar without institutional lookI bought this to use next to the tub/shower in one of our secondary bathrooms, so that while stepping over the tub rim when getting in or out there would be something to hold onto instead of just the weak towel bar or sliding shower door. The finish of the grab bar is brushed nickel rather than the normal plain stainless steel, so it matches the other finishes in the bathroom. The escutcheons on the ends are decorative and also help eliminate the institutional appearance of many grab bars. The bar itself is well designed, extremely strong, and the flanges allow for mounting screws in many postions to match whatever wall conditions you might have. After installation, no mounting screws are visible.I used a Moen "Securemount Anchor (SMA1000)" on one end of the grab bar, since it needed to be mounted on drywall with no stud or blocking behind it. It is a perfect solution when there is nothing solid to screw into. The lower end was screwed into existing blocking behind the wall. The overall mounting is so secure that I can literally hang off the grab bar.With the 24 inch grab bar mounted vertically and centered at about four feet, it can be conveniently reached and used by both children and adults. It simultaneously overcomes the hazards of a slippery tub, wet floor, and loose floor mat. The improvement in safety is dramatic with no real loss of aesthetics as the style of the grab bar is similar to a towel bar. I think a grab bar like this should be required in the building code for all tubs and showers. 5
