Great savory condiment with many usesOnce you've acquired a taste for it there's nothing quite like it. Great on toast with slices of avocados or hard boiled egg or add a dab to chili con carne or a variety of favorite dishes. Not recommended with peanut butter, ice cream, or hot chocolate :-D5Not perfect but...I love Marmite, being an ex-pat from the UK, and I paid an awful lot for the two jars compared to what I'd pay in the UK.Neither of the jars were broken, however, when I received them, some of the product was visible under the bubble-wrap.When I opened the jars they seemed to be slightly emptier than usual. The product was also discolored, being a slightly lighter brown than the almost black elixir I am accustomed to partaking in.It occurs to me that the product may have suffered excess heat either before or during transit which has caused the paling and bubbling over of content.The taste was slightly impaired but the product was recognizably authentic and still very edible. After weighing an empty jar I estimate to only having lost between 10-15 grams of product so it's not a huge deal.3Love it or Hate it.My wife loves it and I don't. This has a taste that must be acquired. The seller in this case in from England. If you are in a hurry and can not wait for five weeks for delivery, order from another supplier. I purchase the largest bottle possible because of the price. If you live in a British country, the price is half the cost; but, living in America you purchase what you can find. The produce is made from a yeast base product and is put on toast or part of a soup base.3Cannot get this where I live, pleased to find it here!Arrived in decent time esp. considering it is from the UK. I think I have ordered from this same company before and reordered again? I recommend them, they have been reliable and Marmite was fresh...still eating it! Lasts forever when it is just me eating it. My American friends think it is weird and they are afraid to try it in most cases! It is loaded in B Vitamins!5I may not like it but my 6 year old daughter "LOVES" it...While I Despise this (& did as a child) Grammy has got my VERY picky 6 year old to love it. Seeing that she doesn't like fruit or vegetables, I'm amazed that she loves marmite so much that when we're getting everything together for her marmite & butter sandwich she's dipping her fingers in the jar because "she just can't wait for her sandwich to be made". I'm glad there's 2 things from the UK that she loves & are healthy for her. Since most American doctors don't like children to eat things like this, I'm blessed her doctor has no problems that her baby cereal was from England.We were stunned about the size. In Arizona I'm having a problem even finding it here. The last stores that we where able to buy from have closed down now.I've never seen a jar this large.My daughter & mum will be in heaven for at least 3-5 months.5We love itMarmite is really tasty, I used to buy it locally in a tiny bottle that costs $7 and it's gone before you can eat it again. With this one I think I will get to have marmite for more than a couple of times. And you get 2 MCbottles. Now you have to buy it before you want it because it takes about 3 weeks, unless you live in Europe. Will buy again and again and again.....5An acquired taste, but seems to be doing the job healthwise. 500g twin-pack a good deal!This is an acquired taste for Americans, but once you get used to it, it's quite flavorful and adds some variety to my breakfast toast. I first tried Vegemite in Australia back in the '80s, it didn't appeal to me, and didn't try it again for 25 years. After a few cholesterol tests where my "good" (HDL) cholesterol was well below the desirable range, and already being in the habit of getting regular exercise and eating a lot of vegetables (the first prescription for increasing your HDL), I began researching food sources of niacin (which supports HDL levels) in hopes of not eventually needing to take prescription niacin medication. The Vegemite/Marmite spreads are among the best supplemental sources of niacin I could regularly fit into my diet (While I have not done a side by side taste tests of Vegemite and Marmite, I cannot tell much difference between them and am satisfied to buy whichever one I can get at the best price).The addition of Marmite to my diet on an almost daily basis seems to have assisted in pushing my latest HDL number comfortably into the desirable 40-59 range, compared to the 20-40 range in tests the previous couple of years (your mileage may vary...).I've just bought my third 2x500g pack form Amazon, and it is the best price I have found taking into account the Prime free shipping. Certainly better than the small Vegemite jars I can buy locally ($7 for 125g). I have bought similar large packages of Vegemite from another online retailer, but their total cost is higher due to shipping, and their product arrives with a "best by" date only a month or so into the future, for a package that will last me 2-3 months.5An acquired taste!Very much an acquired taste! Marmite was an expected feature of the English diet of my childhood. Yes; it's loaded with vitamins; some natural to the yeast from which this stuff is made, others added. The strong taste needs to be "diluted" with butter or other spread. Marmite is only obtainable in a couple of places in NYC; unknown most other locations in the US, and many Americans might say with good reason! (Australians have their similar product called "Vegemite".) If curious, get a small size.I might add that many other cultures throughout the world have strong-tasting food additives that in small amounts add zest to an otherwise bland diet. Marmite does indeed serve the purpose.4Love this MarmiteFolks either love or hate Marmite, just like they love or hate Vegamite. Personally, I can't stand Vegamite, but Marmite, well, mix a little of it with butter, spread it on toast, and you have the makings of a heavenly breakfast. And put a spoonful of this stuff in soup, and you have a wonderful, meaty-flavored, robust soup which before was nothing but bland vegetables. And still vegetarian! Two enthusiastic thumbs up for this British product.5Marmite - real Klingon food and not for the timid....Spreading Marmite (Vegemite is a distant second) on toast (or crackers) is an acquired taste and not for the timid. I was raised on Marmite in the 50's and 60's in the UK and just love this stuff. It's a manly spread that any Klingon would more than conquer whole planetary systems for. You should first use this spread sparingly with a good strong draught Guiness immediately on hand to wash it down. Please don't do what a good American friend of mine did and confuse it with Nutella. Nutella is a nutty chocolate confection that is heaven incarnate. He slathered a good 1/2 inch of the stuff (Marmite) thinking it was Nutella and proceeded to take a manly bite. I've never seen a grown man moved to tears so quickly. So - do purchase a small jar of marmite and using it sparingly help mature your tastebuds. Your body will love you for it (eventually).5
