Way better than gels. I had Smore flavor.I hate gu gels but I needed something for an endurance hike and have been trying different foods while I trained. Go gu!5great energy food for multi-hour bike rides; very similar to Honey Stinger wafflesFor years, I have been eating the Honey Stinger energy waffles on my long bicycle rides (3 hours or longer, don't need any extra food on shorter rides). I like the waffle format better than energy bars (which can be hard to chew when I'm tired) or gels (which don't digest well for me when eating several of them over several hours). These GU STROOPWAFELs are very similar to the Honey Stinger waffles. Package is the same size so they fit in my my top tube bento bag. Some people complain that the older Honey Stinger waffles were too crumbly, but they fixed that in the recent "gluten free" version and these GU waffles have a very similar texture to the new Honey Stinger waffles. Honey Stinger waffles have a mild sweet flavor. These GU waffles have a mild fruit flavor. Either way, mild is the operative word so there is just enough flavor to disguise the starch of the waffle, but not so much too upset your stomach when you are tired.Both Honey Stinger and GU have the exact same 21 grams of carbs per waffle, which is a good amount to eat during every hour of exercise (for me), but way too much for casual snacking. Both products have a small amount of sodium, which supposedly helps you absorb more water when you drink, which in turn helps you digest these waffles. Both products cost about the same ($1 to $1.25 per waffle), so I'll probably just buy whatever is cheapest at the moment. Having a variety of flavors in my pantry helps to mix things up. Note that these do start tasting stale after a few months (well before the expiration date), so don't buy too many. If you exercise a lot, having too many is usually not a problem.Ignore the comments from people complaining that these are too bland or have too many calories. These are not snack bars. These are energy food for athletes. They are supposed to be full of calories. If you want a tasty low calorie snack, eat a piece fresh fruit. And yes, hot fresh waffles do taste better, but that is usually impractical when you need to take half a dozen of them on a bike ride.4Perfect food to fuel my LA Marathon 2019Had a chance to taste it while running the San Francisco in July 2018, I bought it to fuel my 2nd marathon in Los Angeles in March 2019. They do not make your hands sticky though which is nice. Provides some calories every hour to keep the legs churning. Have water drink on hand though so you can get it down after swallowing.5
