No WayVery difficult to maneuver especially when you have just had surgery.....too much slack in ropes....I wasn t able to bend beyond 90 degrees so getting this thing started without the help of someone is impossible........you should recommend assistance 2Didn't work for me, but that was because of my situation.I don't want to be unfair to this product. It is not really suitable for what I needed, but that is more my fault than its. I recently had shoulder surgery, and was warned that my right arm would be immobilized for probably several months. I found work-arounds for most jobs, but putting on socks???Unfortunately, this particular device doesn't work because you need both hands to attach the sock to the clips. For someone with severe back problems (been there, done that...) this would probably work fine. Just be aware that it doesn't work for someone with only one hand in use. 3Big help.I used this to get ready for work this morning. It worked flawlessly and I love it. Getting another hip soon and preparing in advance. I will say thatit seems to work better with lighter socks. the plastic bends under the tension of the sock. It works as it should and I don't regret buying it,Bit 5works well, only one small problem with the continuous loop handleI've injured my back and am currently unable to put my own socks on. This works well but I didn't pay enough attention to the design and the mechanics needed prior to purchase. While it does work very well, I wear short athletic socks and don't need the garters - they rattled around and made a lot of noise while my partner was sleeping so I cut them off. My own fault for not paying careful-enough attention.My only other complaint is that there is a single, continuous loop handle. I didn't have any experience with these prior to ordering so didn't know what to look for. The mechanics of using it leaves the device in the back of your leg while the handle is at the front. Because I can no longer move my left leg, it can be awkward to get it out. For me, two handles would have worked much better.Even with those two limitations, this has been a wonderful addition to my morning routine, allowing me the independence to finish dressing myself instead of needing help. 4great product!I have a neuro-muscular disease which restricts my range of motion. Simple things like putting on socks has become an issue for me. I read all the reviews on similar products and so glad I went with this device. It's very simple to use. You just load your sock (at waist level) on the blue hard plastic piece, then lower loaded sock to your foot, step into your sock (I sit in chair and put it lower to floor and use floor to step in) and by using the straps pull the sock on. .. Bam! your sock is on. I have child shoe 2 youth size, and my socks are small. I was worried this device would be to wide to hold my socks, but it works just fine with my ankle and knee length socks. My hubby is happy as well since he is off sock duty now. lol 5Works like a charm!This item was recommend by other amazon shoppers who had knee replacement as a helpful tool during recovery. I purchased it prior to my total knee replacement. It is made from quality plastic and the elastic garters and webbing on the handles seem adequate keeping in mind that it is only a $10 item. However, I would be remiss in my review if I didn't note that the instructions included are for two different models. The one with garter snaps (this one) and one without. My point is if I could bend down and unsnap the garter snap after putting on the sock thenI most likely I wouldn't need help putting on the sock in the first place. Having said that, I find it works fine just putting the sock on the holder without using the garter snaps. I will readily say also that this was used to try it out and then not used during my recovery period. My foot, knee, and entire leg were swollen and wearing socks just simply was not an option for me for the first few weeks. By the time the swelling had subsided I could easily put on my socks alone. So, if you are wanting this for TKR I really wouldn't recommend it but I would recommend purchasing some very large socks to keep your feet warm that do not have much elastic in them.In addition, I plan on keeping this item for future use. There are many other times this would come in handy. Such as when ones back goes out, bone spurs act up, or surgery on abdomin where bending over is painful. 5but it works for me and the sturdy, well-made device doesn'tIn comparison to RMS Deluxe Sock Aid, this product is flimsy and feels cheesy, but it works for me and the sturdy, well-made device doesn't. I had to return the RMS item because it does not accommodate the opening of my standard men's socks. This product is flexible enough to accommodate my socks, and I caught on how to use it after only two tries. 4Essential Medical Supply Deluxe Hard Plastic Sock AidI bought this for use after hip replacement surgery. I "practiced" with socks before the surgery and for regular socks it was fine. What I really need it for is for the anti-embolism stockings I must wear every day for a month. I chose this one because of the garters.I will rate each part: I like the continuous handle rather than two separate handles. I have dropped it several times and it was easy to pick up with my grabber.Garters: These only work with stockings, not with socks. They are very cheaply made and come out of the metal holder. The rubber part must be put back in the medal loop when not in use because when it gets bumped the whole garter comes apart.Blue plastic part: This works fine with regular socks, but the plastic is somewhat flexible. The pressure from the anti-embolism stockings is enough to make it bend. While I have long feet, I have ordinary width feet for a woman. It is hard to get my foot into it because when it bends it is too narrow.At the hospital the one they were selling was wider and a much heavier plastic that didn't bend at all. I'm sorry I didn't know about that one. 2Almost Perfect!I have range of motion issues of my right leg after 8 hip surgeries. My previous version of this device broke, so I brought this to replace it. It works fine, except.....the pull straps are too short. I'm only 5'8", and I find them short for me. A taller person might really have a problem. Remember, this device is designed for people with range of motion issues, so short straps are definitely a "short coming". My second issue is that the strap is one big loop. The one I had previously had two pull straps which worked much better. Having said all this, I hope the guy who invented (and hopefully patented this) is sitting on a tropical beach somehwere enjoying the fruits of his design acuity! 3Does not hold up with daily use! Do not purchase!This product seemed wonderful when my husband first received it. I purchased this for him because I was going to be away for 10 days and he has a difficult time putting on his own socks. It did the job well with both short and longer socks. However, not long after daily use, one of the "bolts" on one side pulled out of the plastic and flew across the room. There was no fixing it. Since it was useless the way it was, my husband worked at getting the remaining bolt out, and then had two holes through which he could tie the cord and continue to use the aid. I couldn't believe it when I got home and saw it! Extremely unsatisfactory! 1
