Stems in berriesThere are stems in the dried berries... there poisonous. Did not expect to have to pick all the stems out.1Three StarsSays organic but they are not certified organic.3Great Productso easy and so much cheaper to make your own syrup using dried berries. I soak over night in the fridge, bring to a boil and simmer for 45 minutes. Once cooled I put in a ball jar with a wire mesh sprouting screen to strain into a second ball jar. I make a double batch. The first half is stored in a glass ball jar. The other half is stored in a BPA free freezer safe plastic cup. Lots of recipes on-line can include ginger and raw honey for an extra anti-viral punch.5Most bitter funk smell ever, cant even describe the ick, not your avg. elderberry, Not Right!!I have been using elderberry for years now, my first time ordering this brand and I will not again, They had an odd smell to them when I opened the package, a good month after shipment and return window , I proceeded to make elderberry syrup and I was concerned about chemical smell that I just couldnt place, Finished syrup was the most bitter I've ever experienced, the smell in my home was not right, there is just Nothing about these elderberries Other then the Look of them that is right, I do not know if they were harvested too early/late or if heavy chemicals were used to grow/dry them, But buyer beware, you will not use them, not after your first batch of anything, I knew I should have done more research, Maybe the birds will like them!!! I have never been brand specific I look for organic best I can and have used everything from natural grocers to fresh and raw from the mountians, These were just absolutly Not Right!! No way I will use this for my family, learned to open and check them immediatly even if they were just going in the medicine kit till needed, cause when we needed them we found out I made a huge mistake ordering these!! Look for an organic brand if you can, but dont het this brand, unless youd like a bag of elderberries for the birds!!!1HORRID SMELL AFTER USINGI just purchased these and noticed a weird, nauseating smell in the middle of the night after making a syurp from them. I then noticed the next day that my clothes were smelling off even tho I just washed them the day before.when I finally got home from a work day, I noticed that my entire apartment complex floor smelled really badly. I hoped that it wasn't coming from my apartment but the smell got worse as I got closer to my door. I entered my apartment and realized that the berries had made my entire apartment complex smell like a dead animal had died overnight. The berries that I had cooked the night before to make a syrup made my entire apartment complex smell so bad that I could barely stand it.I would never recommend purchasing this brand of elderberries. Something is definitely not right.1Flu GaurdThis is my second season for trying elderberry syrup. First year making my own. All I can tell you is that I have always been cursed with a lousy immune system. I work in a hospital and I always catch everything that comes in the door. I stay sick all winter long with colds and sinus infections and bleh. Somebody told me about elderberry syrup last year and it ain't cheap. But - I tried it and started BEFORE flu season. I was not sick all winter last year! I was totally stunned. If you feel a little run down and start to get some symptoms you increase the amount and it will knock it! I'm hoping the same goes for this year. Last year we had "Flumagedon" and I didn't get the flu. One bad of these makes several batches of the syrup.5Arrived damagedMy order arrived today. I like the amount that comes in the package, but was not happy to see a 1.5 inch long cut in the back of the bag. The cut was open so that some of the product was spilled in the box it arrived in. The cut looked as if it came from a box cutter blade. Better care should be given when cases of bagged items are opened at warehouses.3Definitely need to sort out stems...I saw the reviews and knew that it was likely to see stems, etc... the picture is what I ve sorted so far - a little less than 1/2 cup, and the stems that came from the berries in the measuring cup. Quite a bit of stems compared to the quantity of berries.3Important part of my allergy reliefThere are several elderberry brands I trust, this is one of them since I use so much of it I look for the least expensive of the good stuff that has free shipping. This one passes the test. I drink Elderberry tea daily for lung and upper respiratory health. It keeps allergies at bay as well. I no longer make the homemade syrup because of the sugar but it does the trick without it. If I m fighting a sore throat or cold I make a concentrated tea with agave and key lime juice. It s more effective when drank as hot as comfortably tolerated. Fall and spring has me clawing itch eyes constantly. With use of elderberry tea plus nettle leaf and chamomile I find 90% relief5Not organic!This product states organic in the description and no where on the packaging does it say organic . It says natural which is not the same. I will be returning.1
