good digestive enzymes as part of "leaky gut" treatmentI have been taking these impressive broad spectrum digestive enzymes as part of an overall plan to try to heal some serious gastrointestinal problems I have that include maldigestion and malabsorption. The Doctor's Best enzymes have one of the widest spectrum profiles with powerful amounts of each enzyme (the numbers and letters after each enzyme on the label). I think in my particular case, I am dealing with an overall disorder that has progressed to intestinal hyperpermeability, or "leaky gut" syndrome. This happens when the enterocytes lose the strength of the tight junctions that normally keep intestinal contents, food, bacteria, and immune complexes, out of the systemic circulation, which leads to overwhelming systemic inflammation and often food hypersensitivities that have to be dealt with. I began treating myself with strong probiotics (I recommend Hyperbiotics PRO-15 regular or Advanced strength) and these broad spectrum digestive enzymes (used one capsule after every meal or snack) to try to heal the dysbiosis and maldigestion, which are both a cause and an effect of this type of problem. My symptoms started out with mild but rapidly progressing acid reflux, which I realized were the result of low stomach acid not digesting my food (Google GERD and low stomach acid) so I added Betaine Hcl with pepsin (NOW) to replace stomach acidity and provide extra help digesting protein, and Gluten Digest (NOW), a specialized digestive enzyme that helps digest the problem proteins gluten and dairy contain. I take all three forms of enzymes after every meal or snack, and it has really made a huge difference in both my digestion and my GI tract, as well as my acid reflux all but resolving.I also used D-limonene (Jarrow) to help completely resolve the acid reflux and wean myself off prilosec and acid reducers for good. I then added licorice root (Nature's Way), aloe vera (NOW), and slippery elm (NOW) as coating and soothing supplements to allow my GI tract to heal, and these also further help with the reflux and digestion as the inflammation is reduced. I added L-glutamine (Jarrow) which directly coats the enterocytes and nourishes them to heal the tight junctions to begin to resolve the " leaky gut". I am going through and listing all of this in case it helps someone else who has more severe problems than probiotics and digestive enzymes alone can resolve, to give you suggestions and hope.All the suggestions I have made are useful for almost any problem with acid reflux, heartburn, GERD, IBS, or any other more serious GI problem, such as Celiac disease or Chrohn's or Ulcerative Colitis, or others with "leaky gut", which is often also linked to autoimmune disease (I have Hashimoto's autoimmune thyroiditis). Try good probiotics like Hyperbiotics "perfect probiotic" PRO-15 time release pearls, and good broad spectrum digestive enzymes like these by Dr's Best first, and then if that isn't enough, research and consider some of the other supplements I have been using with good success. The more complex your problem, the less likely unfortunately it will be that one or two things alone will be enough, so don't give up on the digestive enzymes as they are some of the most important supplements for any GI disease, along with the probiotics. Any GI disorder, structural or functional, is affecting your digestion and absorption of nutrients, and keeping you from being healthy no matter what you eat, and good strong broad spectrum supplemental digestive enzymes are the cure for that. Even though it takes many months to heal intestinal hyperpermeability, during which time I personally intend to continue to take all of the supplements I mentioned, I think anyone with any kind of GI issue should take good probiotics and digestive enzymes, and consider Betaine Hcl. HIghly recommend these enzymes and taking some form of digestive enzymes for the long term. I plan to always take a Hyperbiotics probiotic and a good digestive enzyme, even once I am healthy again. I may try different digestive enzymes by NOW, digestive ultimate or platinum, only because they have several more digestive enzymes and higher potency, than even these by Dr.;s Best, but they are a little more expensive. Highly recommend!! 5Necessity for healthy digestionAfter some testing, I found out I don't make pancreatic enzymes, so these became a necessity. I take one capsule 20 minutes before I eat and I am no longer nauseated or get heart burn after I eat. My only caution is that with the level of enzymes in these that break down carbohydrates, my blood sugar spikes with small portions of sweet potatoes, let along anything else. So use with caution if you are eating a carb heavy meal. Otherwise, I won't live without them. 4You will NOT be disappointed!!I had been having stomach issues for years and years and constant bloating. I would retain all my water in my mid section and thought it was a lost cause. Every time I would eat, I would get so big. To the point where if I was going out, I would barely eat, because my outfit wouldn't fit right. I would rarely go to the bathroom, even stool softeners, laxatives, you name it....it didn't work.I ended up getting a colonic and spoke with the person who administered this and she gave me some very helpful tips...1- Do NOT drink water within 30 minutes of eating (before or after you eat)2- Completely STOP chewing gum (it makes you swallow air)3- Digestive EnzymesNow, it's okay to have a sip of water to take mediation, etc. but do not drink a lo with food as it dilutes the natural digesting enzymes in your stomach. I did a lot of research and found Doctor's Best to have one of the largest variety of enzymes, and highest potency. Since I was having severe issues, I thought what d oI have to lose? I take 1-3 pills depending on what or how much I ate, with every meal, and follow the other guidelines diligently, and my bloating is gone!!! Everyone of my friends have noticed, my clothes fit better, pants are too big on me now! I couldn't be happier that I found these, and if you are having digestive issues, i URGE you to give this a shot!!! 5took for odd pain in ribsso in 2018 I had a right shoulder that falired up as calcium deposits and needed surgery. 3 weeks after surgery I had a intense sharp stab pain under my right rib. dropped me to the floor.. only took a second and was gone. it traumatized me tho. it was all I could think about. a constent dull ache with occasional zaps and zings under the rib bothered me for months. got a endo,ultra and blood. white blood count was low, small ulcers, duodendum was inflamed and I tested positive for gluten senstivily. been gluten free for 6 months and it has made me feel better but not great. the pains still bother me here and there. went back to another doctor and did bloods. white blood count still low but gluten got a little bit better. still a weak positive. this isn't a stomach ache pain. its very unique stabbing pain under the right rib occasional the left. at night it bothers me more and gives me anxiety.i had horrible smelling gas and stools. I self diagnosed myself that I am not digesting fat properly. so I started taking enzymes. it hasn't taking the pain away but I go to the bathroom 1 or 2 times a day and they look perfect. theres a lot to be said about your overall health by what your poop looks like. personally I think I have a gallbladder issue that maybe inflamed my pancreas and I don't produce enzymes properly. again self diagnosied because doctors don't seem to do much but offer a anti acid pill. I had my mother try these beaause she always has diarehha and she got worse diarehha from them so I guess you have to try and see. Over a year ago I was finally diagnosed as having Silent Reflux. I refused to take the prescribed acid reflux meds since I had no burning. This started my educational journey for the next year to take control of my own health and current issue. After trying numerous other things and several other digestive enzymes that did not do anything, I found Doctor's Best Digestive Enzymes. I take one capsule before or with the first bite of food. (Also eating healthy contributes to your good digestion) The enzymes help to alleviate or prevent the annoying symptoms (drainage, constant clearing of throat, hoarseness, etc.) of the Silent Reflux. I can tell a difference when I forget to take 1 capsule with my meal. 5I suffer from acid reflux and gallstones.I take 3 with food, always before eating my food though and it works wonderful. I have noticed that if I take them after food it doesn't work that much. Needs to be just before you are about to eat. I have gallstone and I suffer from acid reflux. This helps me. Sour odor.I received these on March 5, 2019 and the expiration date says Jan 2022. While the bottle was properly sealed and did not appear damaged, the pills have a sour sweaty clothes smell. Unsure of whether this is normal, I contacted the manufacturer who replied confirming "The product should not have a strong sour odor." They asked for photos to which they responded "Your product appears normal." --- Not exactly helpful. I'm returning these to Amazon because these pills clearly went bad despite being well within its expiration window. I will not be repurchasing from this brand. 1I saw a nutritionist and he recommended it. I am not disappointedI was struggling w/ tummy aches at every meal....I pop one of these before breakfast and I can tell a real difference. This product has been helpful for me! I have no more stomach / upper GI aches, and have not had any side effects from the product. I admit I didn't do any research about this product. But, I saw a nutritionist and he recommended it.
