Warm nutty flavor, great qualityI've used Bob's Organic Golden Flaxseeds for years now. I started using them simply because they taste so warm and nutty and enhance many foods. I particularly like them in Fage Greek yogurt and Bob's oat bran hot cereal. The color is very appealing as well.But as time went on, I realized all the benefits of ground flaxseeds. The impressive amount of fiber, protein, omega-3 ALA, and of course those unique lignans. Ground seeds are far superior to the oil, and since you grind them fresh yourself, you never have to worry about them going rancid, like the oil or pre-ground meal.I have also found that the lignans, as I have read, do indeed have a gentle phytoestrogen effect on the system. I actually feel better eating these, with more energy, less joint pain, and just a general positive effect.Truly a super food. And this brand is the best, IMHO. Good deal on it, too, here on Amazon. I love that these are shipped as a pack of four because what you get is actually a box that you pop the top off of. It's the display that you see in the store, so it keeps the packages neat and orderly. Nifty.5Been using Bob's Red Mill flax seeds for many years. Always great.I have been using Bob's Red Mill flax seeds (both brown and golden) for many years and have never been disappointed. Fresh, usually well packaged (only happened once a batch were two of the bags were not sealed in a corner), no foreign particles. I grind them with a spice and nut grinder5Lots of Goodness In This, Very PleasedI wanted to incorporate the potential benefits of flaxseed into my diet as naturally as possible, and after reading about the pros and cons of oil versus seeds, seeds versus preground powder and the potential for rancidity and loss of nutritonal value, I opted for this form. I also purchased this KRUPS F203 Electric Spice and Coffee Grinder with Stainless Steel Blades, 3-Ounce, Black at the same time, and have not been disappointed in either.I (or my daughters) only grind about a week's worth of powder, and leave the other bags of seeds intact in the fridge to keep them fresher longer. Before grinding, we sort through and inspect the amount of seeds we intend to grind either on a smooth white plate, or a lipped cookie sheet and discard the few odd black grains/seeds that we come across. After that, we run them through the grinder, just a bit at a time until we are finished.I enjoy this in some cooled-off matcha tea, but whenever I get all of the ingredients for smoothies, I'll likely be adding these to that as well. Powdered, these make whatever liquid you stir it into thicker. The slight nutty flavor and texture is very pleasant to me and I look forward to my daily dose/doses of this. Another added benefit, for me anyway, is that this does help me to be more regular without necessarily needing to supplement with a large magnesium capsule. (I would describe it as a natural Miralax-type benefit).This is my first purchase of raw flaxseeds, so I have nothing else to compare it to, but I've been very pleased with the freshness, quality and packaging.5This is helping...This is helping me kill two birds with one stone. I am able to get in 4 tbsp of this a day and I find that I am drinking more water to help. I actually let my seeds sit for about an hour in my water, which is either lukewarm or hot, and I add raw honey. The seeds produce a white foam that I drain off with my water to drink. I also sometimes drink the seeds in my water. It doesn't have a taste and works better if you drink before a meal because it helps wit h digestion. I will definitely be reordering this to have on hand.5Better taste, lower omega 3Tastes better than the brown variety. Supposedly the brown (Canadian) flax seed has a higher omega 3 fatty acid content (only a couple of percentage points according to a study that's easy to find). The golden flax seed seems to have a softer husk than the brown, if the sound they make when being ground up in a coffee grinder is any indication. I'd give the brown ones four stars as well, but for the higher omega 3 levels. A five star rating would be flax seed that had better taste overall, but that's not the reason you eat the stuff in the first place.4First I would like to say that I use flaxseeds on a regular ...First I would like to say that I use flaxseeds on a regular bases. I saw this great deal from Bob's Red Mill and decided to give it a try because they are cheaper to buy in bulk.Well my seeds arrived today and I was very excited. But when I opened the package I became quickly disappointed that all 4 of my packages have black tiny gravels or rocks in them and now I will have to sit and pick through them. Also after carefully examining the gravel with a flashlight I pray that they are rocks and not mouse poo or anything bad.I will be calling Bob's Red Mill tomorrow to ask about this problem.I usually REALLY enjoy Bob's products and am both surprised and disappointed.3Great product, stiff price increase.I like this product very much and have used this particular brand for the past four years. The only reason for 4 vs. 5 stars is the price. While the exterior box looks nearly identical, the contents have gone from 96 ounces down to 78 ounces, and the price went up from $13.56 to $17.99, which represents a price increase of 64%. The time frame I am speaking of is comparing December 2017 to March 2018.Update: 7/4/2018 - I just realized that there are two varieties of this; this one is "Organic" and probably the reason for the higher price. Even though my December purchase was organic, the ones prior to that, dating back to 2014 were NOT organic. I suspect the one I did get at the lower price was likely a mistake. So I raised it to 5 stars because it is a very good product.5Wonderful stuffGreat source of vegetable based omega-3 fats (most health articles insist that animal-based omega-3's are superior); good source of fiber and magnesium also. Promotes regularity and is a great addition to many dishes: salads, yogurt and even raw (I always add organic Ceylon Cinnamon and often fruit like dried cherries). I prefer the Golden to Brown and Organic ALWAYS, but that's just a personal opinion.5Excellent valueI've previously purchased whole, organic flax seeds loose, by the pound, at the health food store, but the price for this product here on Amazon is so terrific, I couldn't resist, even though it is a whole lot of flax seeds. Because flax seeds can go rancid, I keep a little bit at a time in the fridge for daily use, and the rest I store in the freezer.Flax seeds in general don't have a specific, strong taste, so they blend well in fruit and veggie smoothies, and they do not affect the taste adversely in baked goods. They also make a great substitute for eggs for vegans. For each egg you want to substitute for, you grind up 1 tablespoon of flax seeds, stir it into 1/4 cup of water, and let it soak a few minutes so it thickens into a gel before adding it to your recipe.I use this great little grinder to grind up these flax seeds, and it works superbly. I also use it to grind various herbs and spices I use.I have so far used these ground-up flax seeds in my daily green smoothie and in veggie burgers as an egg substitute. They are a terrific egg substitute.5Extremely helpful in raising my good cholesterol levelsI've had lower than recommended levels of the good cholesterol type until I started adding a few tablespoons of ground flax seed to my smoothies and other meals everyday. Its been slow, but my good cholesterol levels have been consistently climbing and are now comfortably above the recommended minimum levels. There's nothing else in my diet that would have helped with this. Considering I hate fish, this has been really helpful.5
