so disappointing!Wow, this coffee has almost no flavor. Initially, the beans did not even really have much aroma. The first batch was very bland, Folger's was better. So I left in the newly purchased fancy container with CO2 release and a week later, it smelled better. So, I tried a second batch and again, really no flavor. Not acidic, not really offensive, just boring as the most bland diner coffee I can imagine. What's up with this? A Seattle based mega company with whole bean BORING coffee!!!!! And you must buy three bags with no returns. Hmmm, I feel ripped off by a company I could not be more pleased with. Maybe the Las Vegas heat killed it in transport. The coffee is a 2, but I give one star because it cost so much to buy three bags. Hey, offer a sample bag, how about that? I also bought three bags of the hazelnut and it is just average, at least it has some flavor, but not nearly as good as Seattle's Best I can buy at the grocery store. Hard to figure. In the trash go the other 3 bags and I will only buy one type of coffee I really like from Amazon, but if they have their own web site, I am going there to purchase direct. I guess another reason I am not sold on purchasing groceries from Amazon. Nobody is excellent at many things.1quality quantityit seems unfair to compare Amazon Dark Roast with all the other coffee I enjoy. I could make the list and even report what I like better about all of them. but what you need to know is that I am happy with this Dark Roast. ADR does not fall at the end of my list nor is it at the top. the grind works in the French press. the trick was finding how many to use to make it taste rich and complete instead of over powered and big. which is the thing you chase with any beans. I do appreciate is that this big bag of coffee sells for not that much more than a little version of my other favorites. it means I will not run out after a few days.4Can I return this coffee?I like a strong,flavorful cup of coffee-nothing weak or watered down. I love espresso roasts with milk, but I also love a good light roast. I want to be wowed by my morning Cup, but I was not at all impressed with this Go forThe Bold. Sure it s a dark roast, but just totally lacking in flavor. It could be side of the road diner coffee for all the flavor it has. I wish I could send it back. And now i doubt I ll try the other AmazonFresh coffees.2Not "Fresh". Fresh roasted beans outgas.Here's a tip to know how fresh roasted beans are: draw the air out of the bag thru the one way valve until the bag is tight around the beans. Freshly roasted beans will continue to outgas and the bag will "loosen" around the beans. These did not. Attached is the bag of dark roast beans that arrived 5 days ago, I removed the air then, and it's still the same, no outgas at all. Stale beans. Also, I ordered all 3, Dark, Medium and Light roast; I opened the medium roast first (after a day with no outgas) and tried it, it was dark roasted and not very good. Similarly the next day tried the light roast, also not fresh, but tasted a bit better, I would call it medium roast, not light, slight amount of oil showing on the beans. Overall not a good experience.1More Bang for Your BuckThis coffee is smooth and delicious, and I was AMAZED at the price point. It will keep me in coffee for several weeks (well, maybe not. I drink A LOT. :P~~~~). When I buy coffee, I weigh the cost vs. the weight, and decided to try this on a whim, because if it was really good, then I could save money over the brands I normally buy. I would put it up there with Peet's, Starbucks, etc. except honestly, it's smoother and tastes less burnt without being $15-18 a pound. I have bought those brands because I was mistaken that they were "better." Heads up, they're not. I do save money by brewing at home and not going to a coffee shop every day, but when you have to buy a pound or so a week, it still adds up. If you like Trader Joe's and Whole Foods' store brands, you'll really like this.5My new go to CoffeeWhen I started grinding coffee beans for my morning coffee routine I became "addicted". Freshly ground coffee is so much better. I prefer a Dark Roast, strong Dark Roast, not necessarily for the caffeine but the flavor. Believe it or not a light to medium roast coffee bean has more caffeine than a dark roast coffee bean.A good coffee bean can be very expensive.When in a pinch, I would have to settle for the Eight O'clock dark/Columbian coffee bean at my local grocery store, not a fan. My go to was Seattle's Best dark roast version, which was excellent but very pricey for the size of the bag.With that said, Amazon Fresh Dark Roast Whole Bean Coffee, 32 Ounce was a Big Win for me.The beans were small, shiny (oily), smelled great and tastes even better. The packaging was also great.I am sure with any online purchase, you may get a "Dud" here or there, but I am very happy with my purchase!5FABULOUSI consider myself a hard core coffee drinker. This brand has the riches, dark aroma I have yet to come across, except for (eight o'clock himalayan blend.) But for cost, this is the BEST. I wish I could get it on auto delivery, but I just keep coming back for more.5Yummy rich coffeerich and oily and satisfying - so far so good. I had to set the grind on my burr a bit lower as the fine setting jammed my steel filter...probably due to the oil5I needed to grind it very fine to get all the flavors.The Sumatra whole bean is better and has more flavor. The first bag I had, I did not like it at all. I thought I would give the second bag I had another shot and made sure to grind it extra fine. That definitely helped as I would have left a 1-start if I did not try it again. I believe it has good base flavors but it s not all there. The intensity of a traditional dark roast is missing and it s simply not as enjoyable to drink as the amazon fair trade Sumatra dark roast linked below.
